Volume 1, 2001 (Original Volume)

NOVAtions was originally launched in fall 2001 by doctoral students in the University of Colorado at Denver's Educational Leadership and Innovation (EDLI) doctoral program to fulfill the requirements of their Theoretical Foundations of Instructional Technology course. These students were responsible for the following activities:

  • Determining the journal's scope and audience,
  • Naming the journal,
  • Designing the look-and-feel of the journal Website,
  • Defining  editorial review guidelines,
  • Contributing articles and book reviews for consideration,
  • Reviewing peers' articles and book reviews as members of the review board, and
  • Publishing the first volume of the journal.

Because of the effectiveness of the NOVAtions experience for students and the great foundation the students created for a legitimate online, peer-reviewed journal, the EDLI faculty adopted the journal and formally established a governing board and rigorous editorial review procedures.  Although the original volume of the journal (Volume 1, 2001) was not reviewed using the official editorial process now used by the editorial review board, we honor these students' contributions by making their work available to the scholarly community.  Their original manuscripts -- both literature reviews and book reviews -- are available below.
